Alavanyo
Abeheanse
Location
Alavanyo
Abehanse is located about 20 km south-west of Hohoe. From the main Accra-Hohoe
road, a dirt road branches westwards at Gibi Wegbe, about 7 km south
of Hohoe. The waterfall lies about 1 km from the village, and it is
possible to get within 50 m with a private vehicle.
The Place
Alavanyo Abehanse
is a village of roughly 1,000 inhabitants. To the west, it is framed
by attractive mountains. The path leading to the waterfall further continues
to the Foyer de Charité, a little French convent.
Main Attractions
To
reach the waterfall, visitors have to climb on a little foot path through
dense bamboo and other trees or bushes. Even though less high than,
for example, Wli Falls, Tsatsudo Falls has a special appeal, and many
visitors say that it is the most attractive of all the waterfalls in
Hohoe District. It consists of several small waterfalls that are separated
from the one above or below by a dark and rocky ledge, creating a cascade
of falling water. On two separate levels, there are pools (one above
the other) both of which are deep enough to swim in.
According to the
villagers, hiking is possible in the nearby hills and, in particular,
up Mount Mangotoedzi.
